HOW WE DO IT The right start To begin our personalized services we give you as much of our professional attention and time as it takes for us to determine your language and scheduling needs and inform you about our program. We start by focusing on your individual language objectives your timetable to pursue them your times available for classes your experience and proficiency in the language Now we are ready to tell you about our approach to language instruction and explore with you how AMLC can best meet your language and scheduling needs. The AMLC approach We create a supportive and stimulating atmosphere in a comfortable environment where students confidently practice, learn and grow in the language. Authentic pronunciation, phrase modeling and ear training are key to this process. Rather than the passive textbook grammar approach, language development at AMLC is a "conversational active," learning-while-using process. It approximates as nearly as possible the way we learned our own native language. Going beyond the classroom We dedicate extensive professional attention and time before and after every class to monitoring and planning each step of your progress to assure your development of active, working knowledge and skills in the language. Since 1978, a top priority of AMLC has been that our students learn realistically to control their conversational circumstances and develop as active speakers in the language community. During my first trip to Mexico, it became clear to me that language would be Spanish. "With no prior Spanish language instruction, I began taking lessons at AMLC at the age of 34. I remained committed to one class each week. Consequently, these are some of the fruits of my pursuit of a second language:"
	My workplace certified me as a Spanish translator in both written and spoken language. Our family travels annually to Mexico and we are now planning to spend Christmas there each year. I have been a member of the Partners of the Americas for nearly six years...I have stayed in the US Ambassador's residence in Uruguay and I now serve on the board of directors. Our family has hosted three exchange students from Mexico. We made a decision to have our three sons attend a language immersion program and they are now fluent in Spanish. My wife is now studying Spanish. Our family and children have friends we keep in touch with from all over the Spanish speaking world including Mexico, South America, Spain and Costa Rica. We have made many new friendships in our own community with Spanish speaking families.
